How do you start an “all about me” paragraph? I am so many things. I am a mother of three little boys. I am a wife to an amazing husband. I am a daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. I am a stay-at-home boy mom with a master’s degree who traded in her career as a therapist to change diapers, wipe noses, and organize play dates. I know more now about Pokémon and Super Mario than I do about the current DSM and I go to bed thanking G-d every night for the family I once feared I would never have. I am also a warrior who fought tooth and nail to find recovery from anorexia and bulimia after struggling “off and on” (translation- mostly on) for over 25 years. After returning to treatment for the third time, I have now been in real recovery for over two years. I finally understand firsthand the quote "learning to love yourself as you are is a form of rebellion." In a world where women bond over hating their bodies, the latest dieting trend, their fitbits, and how they are going to change their bodies- loving and accepting yourself is counter culture. I am proud and grateful I found the strength to continue silently pushing through recovery despite being surrounded by women consumed with making or keeping their bodies smaller and younger. Through recovery I am rediscovering my passion for writing, dancing, and all things sparkly. I have my own small business selling Color Street nail polish strips, I write for an online recovery website, and I hope to use my voice to help others who may be struggling. I am a writer with a dream to write a book that helps millions of other men and women break free from eating disorders and diet culture. I am goofy, witty, sensitive, and extremely clumsy, and have hit our house with my car more times than I can count. Despite my fears, I am courageous and resilient with a kind and loving heart. I am someone who values authenticity and honest connections and hates small talk. I am learning to slow down, look within, love myself, and connect to the universe in my own spiritual ways. I am a recovering perfectionist who loves to learn and grow. I am Lisette.
